purple goes green

Cadbury is going green by cutting energy use, reducing excess packaging and managing water use. Here are some environmental initiatives that relate to Easter specifically...

- Cadbury have launched a new range of 'Treasure Eggs'Treasure Eggs
which have no cardboard box, they're just wrapped in foil. Perfect for hiding.

  • Reduces plastic by 78% v a standard egg
  • No box, less waste

- Cadbury have reduced the amount of plastic casing in small and medium sized Easter eggs. After all, Easter is about the egg, not the box.

  • Saving 247 tonnes of plastic (which is the equivalent of 4.8m PET bottles)
    * A PET bottle weights 42g therefore there are 23,800 PET bottles in a tonne (Source: Institute of Food Science and Technology)

- Cadbury have reduced the amount of cardboard used in transporting the eggs from warehouses into stores. But don't worry they will still be in top condition.

  • Saving 115 tonnes of cardboard (1 tonne is the equivalent of 17 trees)
    * It takes on average 17 trees to make a tonne of paper - NB depends what type of paper and what type of tree. (Source: Recycled Papers: The Essential Guide. Claudia Thompson (Cambridge, MA:MIT Press, 1992))

- As part of the ongoing partnership between Cadbury and The National Trust in 2008, Cadbury is contributing £150,000 to the National Trust Ancient Trees and Woodland Conservation programme.

- Introduction of a re-useable tin for The Collection Egg now you can keep your eggs safe from other hunters!
